I was pleased to be able to participate in a special preview of this year's ICE! featuring The Nutcracker at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center here in Kissimmee just outside of the gates of the Walt Disney World Resort last night.

This is one of my favorite hotels in the Orlando area. If you've ever been there, you know why! This grand facility never fails to impress.

Likewise, this year's Christmas Celebration at the Gaylord Palms is sure to put you in the holiday spirit.

Now, I'm not one to celebrate Christmas before Thanksgiving, but this week's record breaking cold temperatures (don't worry, it's warm again today!) and the fantastic displays and events experienced last night has put me in the mood.

The evening started with a special appearance by the Orlando Ballet performing excerpts from their production of The Nutcracker - this year’s ICE! theme. You can catch the Orlando Ballet in a full performance of The Nutcracker December 19-21 onstage at the brand new Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

The beautiful performance was followed by a final dress rehearsal of Luminescence - a holiday concert with some twists (literally!). This FREE musical event features a live band, singers, and aerial artistry showing twice nightly in the atrium under a sea of twinkling lights at the base of the hotel’s 54-foot Christmas tree.

We then collected those famous blue parkas and braved the 9 degree cold of ICE! where we marveled at the bigger than life carvings, posed for pictures, ducked our heads in at the new On The Block ICE! Bar, and, of course, took several runs down the ice slides.

We finished the night by checking out the new Alpine Rush Snow Tubing. This attraction which is in its fifth year at Gaylord Texan makes a welcome Orlando debut. Grab a tube and race down a short, but exhilarating snow covered hill sure to bring out a smile in the scroogiest Scrooge - an awesome, fun ending to a great night. Riders must be 42” to go alone or 36” accompanied by an adult in a double tube.

Check out Christmas at Gaylord Palms including ICE! featuring The Nutcracker and Alpine Rush Snow Tubing. Separate and Combo Tickets available. Make it even more memorable by delighting in a meal at the renowned Villa De Flora buffet, setting sail at Sunset Sam’s in Key West, enjoying fine dining at Old Hickory Steakhouse, or conversing over a casual pint while watching the 37’ sport screen at Wreckers Sports Bar.
