Universal Orlando Resort Expanding With New Budget Friendly Hotel

July 9th, 2012 8:20 PM by Brent Ferry

Fresh off the opening of the new Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride last week, Universal Parks & Resorts together with Loews Hotels & Resorts announced today that they will be building a new, 1,800 room hotel dubbed Cabana Bay Beach Resort on a 37-acre site next to the Islands of Adventure theme park.

In a similar vein to Disney's Art of Animation Resort which opened on May 31st, the resort will offer value accommodations through a mix of family suites and standard guest rooms.

Perks will include closeness to the parks, in park charging privileges, and early admission; however, complimentary Universal Express Unlimited will not be offered as it is when staying at Universal Orlando's existing 3 on-site hotels - Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Royal Pacific Resort.

The new on-site is scheduled to open in 2014.
