The U.S. Census Bureau had pulished their annual Characteristics of New Housing report.

52% of new single-family houses completed in 2015 and 56% of new single-family houses sold in 2015 were over 2,400 sq. ft.

The median size of a completed single-family house was 2,467 sq. ft. The median size of a new single-family home sold was 2,520 sq. ft.

The trend for larger homes is currently reflected in our vacation home market. Popular new vacation home buying opportunities incude the 8 bed / 5 bath, 3,826 sq. ft. Maui in The Retreat at ChampionsGate; 9 bed / 6 bath, 4,369 sq. ft. Clearwater in Windsor at Westside; up to 13 bedrooms and over 6,400 sq. ft. of space at Encore Resort Homes at Reunion; and a recently announced 14 bedroom home in Solterra Resort. Many guests travel as extended families or in other large groups and are favoring these new properties and larger homes which are in highly amenitized communities.
